Carbon offsetting

 

Carbon offsetting can be done by companies that also want to take responsibility for the emissions that remain after the action programme has been implemented. Offsetting is done via the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) project, which leads to reductions in energy consumption or changes to renewable sources of energy. The project is based on the Kyoto Protocol and is controlled by the United Nations. The offset project has measurable environmental effects and operates on the principle of sustainable development.
