Business Climate Call

The Business Climate Call initiative comprises 40 companies aiming to contribute to solving the climate issue while strengthening their business. The companies have adapted the vision of Climate Neutrality - operating their business without affecting global warming. The first step is to reduce emissions according to EU's goal with 30% in 2020, and with 60-80% in 2050 (1990 being the year of comparison).

The Ambition:

- Systematic climate work during three years
- Calculate greenhouse gas emissions
- Influence and facilitate for customers and suppliers to work towards Climate Neutrality
- Follow the UN standard when using "Climate Neutrality"

Inspiring examples from the Climate Business Call

o2
o2
raises wind power stations all over Sweden, and an important part of the business is individuals buying shares in these stations. In 2008, o2 raised 70 MW in wind power stations, saving the atmosphere more than 300 000 tons of carbon dioxide.

ICA
In the store, ICA actively works with energy efficiency. Among other things, ICA installs measuring systems to be able to follow up power consumption. Major energy savings are made via covers and doors on fridges and freezers, as well as exchanging old lights. As of 2009, renewable energy stands for a third of the swedish stores energy use, and all warehouses in Sweden and Norway uses renewable energy.

Bilprovningen
(the Swedish Motor Inspection Company)
Bilprovningen has reduced their energy use on 180 sites with 8% between 2006 and 2008. This has been manageable through broad work on following up energy use, increased knowledge and a number of measures. By changing to electricity exclusively from wind and water, carbon emissions has been reduced with more than 99% according to the Climate Tool Svante. Alltogether, the measures have meant a cut in climate emissions from energy (exclusive travelling) from 4721 tons to 2754 tons between 2006-2008, i.e. a reduction with 42%.
